Endgame: the Ancient Monument
To win the world, your alliance must be the first to upgrade an Ancient Monument to level 100. This is Thronewake’s endgame, analogous to the Travian World Wonder (players call it the “WW” or “Wonder”). On a 3× world, the Construction Plans needed to raise it release on day 60 (artefacts release earlier, day 30). See Worlds & Server Speed.
Getting a Monument village
Ancient Monuments can only be built in special Ancient villages:
- Ancient Stronghold villages
- Ancient Monument / Ancient Wonder villages
Your alliance must first conquer one of these from the Ancients. Existing Ancient strongholds don’t hold artefacts — they only contain the building slot for the Monument. After you conquer one, the Ancients try to take it back after a short time. Because you cannot build a Residence or Palace there, these villages aren’t protected from conquest the normal way — so raise the Monument to at least level 1 as soon as possible to protect it.
Special rules of Monument villages
- You cannot turn them into a City.
- You cannot build a Watch Tower there. (This “no wall” rule is why endgame defense is so demanding — see the balance note below.)
- Safe Time does not apply — anyone can attack them at any time, even during their own Safe Time.
- You can build the Great Warehouse and Great Granary there, with 3× more storage capacity.
- Buildings there complete 50% faster.
- Troops there consume 50% less food (after the Construction Plan artefacts release).
Construction Plans
To upgrade a Monument you need a Construction Plan artefact (a.k.a. Ancient Monument Plan; see Artefacts). These come from special Plan Sanctuary villages that spawn later in the world — an in-game announcement / countdown is made 7 days before they appear. Six villages holding a plan artefact spawn (i.e. there are 6 Construction Plans on the world) — in the Third Awakening one side claimed 5 of the 6.
Two ways to get a Construction Plan:
- Conquer a Plan Sanctuary village (or a player village that holds the artefact), or
- Build a Treasury in one of your villages, attack a Plan Sanctuary (or a player village holding the plan), and destroy its Treasury (then take the plan with a winning attack from your empty-Treasury village).
Plan requirements (authoritative)
- For Monument levels 1–49, you need 1 Construction Plan yourself.
- For levels 50–100, your alliance needs a second Construction Plan.
- The second plan must be held by another member of your alliance — you cannot hold both plans yourself, and pacts do not count for the second plan (it must be an actual alliance member).
The artefact/Treasury holding a plan can be in any of your villages — it does not have to be in the Monument village.
Ancient attacks on the Monument
Starting at level 10, the Ancients attack your Monument every 5 levels, including siege units. They also attack (without siege) at level 5 and at 96/97/98/99. There is no attack at level 100.
- They try to destroy it, so your alliance must be prepared to defend.
- Because there’s no attack at 100, you can rush the final levels and complete the Monument to 100 before a pending siege lands — but you must have the full resources ready (jumping several levels near the end needs a huge amount, e.g. ~15M resources to bridge lvl 95→100 before that siege).
- Reaching level 100 = win; end-of-world medals freeze at that moment.
Resources & storage needed
Building to level 100 needs on the order of ~1,000,000 of each resource stored, which is why the Great Warehouse/Great Granary and coordinated alliance supply are essential. In an Ancient Wonder/Stronghold village you can build the Great Warehouse/Granary without the Great Storage Plan artefact (unlike normal villages, which need it) — and there they hold 3× more. The Stone Shield artefact protects buildings but has no effect on the Monument itself; the Shadow Veil doesn’t stop enemies targeting the Monument either. See Artefacts → Ancient/Monument villages.
Ancient-owned strongholds & difficulty
Ancient Stronghold/Wonder villages near the map center tend to have fewer Ancient defenders but are harder to hold; those near the edge have more Ancient defense but are easier to defend (player observations).
Balance note (the “no wall” problem)
Because Monument villages can’t have a Watch Tower, they have no wall — which strongly encourages players to “sit on” a huge suicide hammer all game just to blow the Monument from a high level back down to 0. Community feedback on the endgame (whether the Monument should have a wall, whether the Ancients are too strong, whether required level should be 50 vs 100, etc.) is ongoing and has driven several balance changes.
The Ancients’ own Monument (optional)
On worlds where the toggle is on, the Ancients also race to build a Monument to end a stalling world. See Worlds & Server Speed → safeguard. Winning alliances’ pact partners also receive rewards at the moment the Monument hits 100.
